How To Keep Your Colon Healthy

The most neglected and abused organ in our bodies has got to be our colon. Our colon takes whatever we do to it and still still manages to function fairly well. Keeping your colon healthy is very important. Our colon is one of the most important parts of our body.

Your colon is responsible for the absorption of many nutrients. It is here that the majority of water, salts, and vitamin synthesis is taken care of by thousands of little microorganisms. This process is vital to a healthy body, as it boosts our immune system and helps lower and control cholesterol.

A healthy colon requires six nutrients: soluble fiber, insoluble fiber, oligosaccharides, micro flora supplements, yogurt and other fermented milk products and water. With this in mind there are some factors that disrupt our colon: low fiber diets, antibotics, excessive stress, infections use of harsh chemical and herbal laxatives.

These factor alone can destroy the micro flora which allows bacteria and yeast to take over and damage the colon.

Did you know that your colon, right now is holding twenty five pounds of undigested food, slime, foul and putrefied fecal matter.

Isn’t that a lovely thought for you?

There is something that you can do about that, it is called a colon cleanse.

There are many different colon cleansers available to you. There some general rules and guideline though to follow no matter what product you use.

In a general cleanse follow these four steps:

Step 1: Drink 8 to 10 glasses of water everyday, as well as fruit and vegetable juices.

Step 2: Cleansing – take the recommended serving of your preferred colon cleansing product as directed.

Step 3: Maintenance – take the recommended serving of you preferred product once a day for 30 days.

You continue this process until you feel clean. I can not describe that feeling, but I can tell you that when you are clean on the inside you will feel it. Remember that during any cleansing program you should consume more fiber rich foods and avoid any non fiber food.

Exercise is always important but even more important during cleansing. It is a natural way to get the bowels moving. Water, water, water drink it a lot and drink it often, avoid any other drinks that contain added sugars. Really during the cleanse you need to be drinking only water. During maintenance the fruit and veggie juices are okay.

You should also consider adding digestive enzymes to your diet to be taken with every meal. This will help make sure that proper digestion is happening and our colon stays healthy.
